FEES INFORMATION

At Terence Ray Solicitors, we are committed to offering a clear, realistic and transparent fee structure to help you make an informed decision about engaging our services. The fees guide below outlines our professional legal fees only, i.e., covering all work carried out by us on your matter from commencement to conclusion.

Where stated, our fees are offered on a fixed fee basis and will remain unchanged unless your case involves unforeseen complexity requiring substantial additional work. In such circumstances, we will inform you before any further costs are incurred, explain the reason for any change and proceed only with your formal consent.

In all other matters, we operate on an hourly rate basis, ranging from £250 to £450 plus VAT, depending on the experience and qualifications of the solicitor handling your case.

VALUE ADDED TAX (VAT)

All legal fees quoted are exclusive of VAT, unless otherwise stated. VAT is charged at the current rate of 20%, where applicable and applies to our professional legal services.

  • Please note:
  • Out-of-country applications (where you are outside the UK at the time of instruction) are normally outside the scope of UK VAT and will not attract VAT.
  • Applications made within the UK by individuals who have valid leave to remain are usually subject to VAT.
  • If you are in the UK without valid immigration status, VAT may not apply. We will assess your individual circumstances to determine the VAT position.
  • We will confirm whether VAT applies to your matter during our initial assessment and before any invoice is issued.

DISBURSEMENTS

Our legal fees do not include disbursements, i.e., payments made to third parties on your behalf as part of your application or case. Where we pay these costs for you, the exact amount will be added to your invoice at cost, with no additional charges. We will always obtain your prior approval before incurring any disbursements.

  • Home Office Fees and Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) Payable directly to the Home Office and UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) as part of the immigration application process.
  • HM Passport Office Fees
    Applicable for British passport applications.
  • Interpreting and Translation Fees
    You are welcome to use your own interpreter or translator. If you ask us to assist, we will first obtain a quote and seek your approval.

    These may include medical, psychological, or country expert reports where needed to support your case. If we consider an expert report necessary, we will inform you promptly and provide a cost estimate.

  • Court and Tribunal Fees
    - Immigration appeals: £80 (paper hearing) or £140 (oral hearing)

  • Barristers’ Fees
    Where a barrister is instructed for advice or representation, their fees will depend on the complexity of the matter and their level of experience.
