An EU Settlement Scheme Family Permit allows you to travel to the UK with your eligible family member or join them in the UK more easily. The permit is usually granted for up to 6 months, during which time you can work, study, and travel in and out of the UK freely before it expires.
Without a family permit, you may not be allowed to board your flight or could be refused entry into the UK. If you are eligible, you can also apply to stay in the UK for longer under the EU Settlement Scheme.
Terence Ray Solicitors is your trusted partner for all UK immigration law matters. With extensive experience in both personal and business immigration, our team provides clear guidance and tailored legal solutions to help you navigate the immigration process with confidence.
The EUSS Family Permit allows certain family members of EU, EEA, or Swiss citizens — or of people who have been granted Settled or Pre-Settled Status under the EU Settlement Scheme — to travel to the UK in order to join them or accompany them.
This permit is available to close family members, including spouses, civil partners, unmarried durable partners, dependent children, and dependent parents. The qualifying relationship must have existed before 31 December 2020 to benefit from the transitional protections, though there are also provisions for joining family members who already hold EUSS status.
The EUSS Family Permit is free to apply for and must be applied for from outside the UK. A successful application gives leave to enter the UK for six months, during which you must apply for Settled or Pre-Settled Status.
You will need to provide evidence of your relationship to the EU citizen sponsor, documentation showing the sponsor’s EUSS status, and proof that you were residing with or dependent on the sponsor before 31 December 2020 where applicable.
These applications can involve complex questions around the nature of the relationship and the correct interpretation of transitional protections under the EU Withdrawal Agreement. Legal advice is advisable before submitting your application.
At Terence Ray Solicitors, we assist family members with all aspects of the EUSS Family Permit application. We will review your eligibility and ensure your application is properly supported.
