The UK Expansion Worker route allows senior employees or specialist staff of overseas businesses to come to the UK to set up a new UK branch or subsidiary of their overseas employer, prior to that entity being established in the UK.
This route is specifically for businesses that do not yet have an active UK presence. Once the UK entity is active and trading, workers will typically need to switch to the Senior or Specialist Worker route or another appropriate category.
The overseas business must be an active, trading entity. The worker must have been working for that overseas business and must be coming to the UK to establish its presence here. The UK entity must be registered with Companies House, even if not yet actively trading.
A UK Expansion Worker Visa is granted for a maximum of two years, and it is not extendable. Workers are expected to use this period to establish the UK business and then, if they wish to remain, to switch to a more permanent route.
There is no direct route to settlement under this visa. Salary requirements and sponsor licence requirements apply.
Terence Ray Solicitors assists businesses at all stages of their UK expansion, including obtaining the necessary sponsor licences and processing visa applications for key staff members.
