The Health and Care Worker Visa is a dedicated route for overseas doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, and adult social care workers to come to the UK to work in the NHS or with NHS-funded employers, or in adult social care.
This route is a sub-category of the Skilled Worker Visa but benefits from reduced visa fees and an exemption from the Immigration Health Surcharge — making it significantly more affordable than the standard Skilled Worker route.
To qualify, you must have a valid job offer from a licensed NHS trust, GP surgery, NHS-funded independent healthcare provider, or a regulated social care provider. Your role must fall within an eligible occupation code, and you must be paid at least the required salary threshold.
The required documents include your Certificate of Sponsorship, evidence of your qualifications and registration with the relevant UK regulatory body — such as the General Medical Council (GMC), Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), or Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) — and proof of English language ability.
Your dependants can accompany you to the UK under this route and are entitled to work in any occupation.
The UK remains one of the world’s leading healthcare systems, and Terence Ray Solicitors has considerable experience helping healthcare professionals navigate the application process efficiently.
