Scale-Up Worker Visa

The Scale-Up Worker Visa is designed for highly skilled workers who have received a job offer from a fast-growing UK business that has been approved as a Scale-Up sponsor. It offers more flexibility than the standard Skilled Worker route, as the sponsorship requirement drops away after six months.

To qualify, you must have a job offer from a licensed Scale-Up sponsor, a valid Certificate of Sponsorship, and your role and salary must meet the eligibility requirements. The minimum salary threshold for the Scale-Up route is higher than for the Skilled Worker route.

After six months of working for your sponsoring employer, you can change jobs, work for a different employer, or even become self-employed — all without needing a new visa. This makes the Scale-Up Visa particularly attractive for ambitious professionals who value mobility.

The Scale-Up Visa is granted initially for two years and can be extended. After five years of continuous qualifying residence, you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the same way as Skilled Workers.

To be an approved Scale-Up sponsor, a business must demonstrate that it has grown by at least 20 per cent annually in either revenue or headcount over a three-year period. These are typically innovative, high-growth companies in technology, science, and other fast-moving sectors.

Terence Ray Solicitors advises both workers and eligible businesses on the Scale-Up route, including how to navigate the sponsor endorsement process.
